RIM Prepares To Launch 7 New Smartphones This Year

In an attempt to turn the tide on RIM’s current dwindling business and recover from the failed launch of their Blackberry Playbook which has now been shelved. RIM is now focusing on redesigning their Blackberry smartphone handsets with the announcement at an annual RIM meeting yesterday that RIM will be launching seven new smartphones this year.
The seven new phones will be rolling out over the next few months and will come equipped with a totally brand new operating system according to RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie.

Lets hope the new range of phones and RIM’s new operating system is innovative and something fresh and not just includes features that Android and iOS devices have had from day one.
If RIM are looking to stop the rot within their business they really need to pull out all the stops with these smartphones as their chances are running out quickly for a come back. RIM’s share price is currently at its lowest since August 2006 falling 50 percent this year alone.

In comparison Apple’s iOS App store recently reached 15 billion downloads, whilst Google’s Android Marketplace hit 4.5 billion downloads a while back.

Why The SKA Radio Telescope Is The Most Awesome On Earth

When it’s constructed , of course. It’s all a matter of infrastructure. Physical infrastructure that adds to the total cost of $2.1 billion. The money’s about ready, but construction is schedule to begin at an undisclosed date. Though the deadline is 2020. By 2020, the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) radio telescope will be operational and processing 1.5 petabytes of data. That’s no joke as it’s bigger than the internet. So what’s the SKA for? Searching for alien life and other great quests like dark matter, etc.
SKA telescope
All this according to a professor named Peter Quinn, who shares that the SKA is going to be a “software and IT telescope.” The SKA is a joint project between Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa with additional participation from either NASA or Europe, both of whom will be interested in playing a major role in the SKA’s operation.

Of course, such ridiculous amounts of data requires data centres. There’s already one scheduled for construction in Perth plus a few others in Europe and North America to handle the exaflop capacity of the supercomputer running SKA. (Please don’t start thinking Skynet will be the end result of the SKA program—that’s just tragic.)

The sheer scale of the SKA radio telescope, which we think is going to work in conjunction with China’s answer to SETI, ranks it as a new age wonder. Of course, for this to happen, it needs to be built first
